Here at BHSU we are striving to serve both active duty and veterans. We offer degree programs at the associate's, bachelor's, and master's levels from multiple locations including Spearfish, Rapid City, and online at both day and evening times. Start earning your degree today. We have over 60 programs to choose from, each offering a rigorous program of study to help you earn a high quality degree.

BHSU is a VA approved school, and a member of the Servicemembers Opportunity College Consortium. In August 2010, 2011, and 2012 BHSU was named a Military Friendly School by the G.I. Jobs magazine.

BHSU student veteran stronger person after yearlong deployment
Karen Berger’s year so far has been busy. She is in her final semester at Black Hills State University and currently interning at the Outdoor Campus West in Rapid City all while maintaining her duties as part of the National Guard.

But it is nothing she says she can’t handle. 

BHSU ranked among the Best for Vets for business schools
Black Hills State University has been ranked in the top 25 universities nationwide deemed the Best for Vets for business schools, according to a recent article in Military Times.
BHSU student groups honored by South Dakota Board of Regents

Three Black Hills State University student organizations were recently honored by the South Dakota Board of Regents for their outstanding academic, community, and leadership service.

Swarm Advertising Solutions, Yellow Jackets Vets Club and ShutterBuzz were recognized during the BOR meeting this week.

BHSU ranked among the Best for Vets: Colleges 2013
Black Hills State University has been ranked among the 2013 Best for Vets four-year colleges. The list, put out by Military Times, ranks the schools based on surveys sent in by the universities.

BHSU was ranked in the top 70 schools in the nation that are deemed best for Vets based on a survey that demonstrated widespread efforts by schools to accommodate vets and active-duty service members.


BHSU student vets honored this Veterans Day
More than 20 million men and women will be honored this week for their service to this country. One of those is Black Hills State University senior Karen Berger. BHSU will honor veterans Wednesday at the University’s newly established Vets’ Center.

Berger, an outdoor education major, recently returned from a yearlong deployment to Afghanistan with the 842nd National Guard Engineer Company of Spearfish, Belle Fourche and Sturgis.

More than 30 Black Hills State University students and several student organizations were honored during the 20th Annual Student Volunteer Awards Celebration. 

BHSU student receives Veteran of the Month distinction

Tom MotacekBlack Hills State University student Thomas (Tom) Motacek was recognized as the November 2011 Veteran of the Month by the City of Rapid City and the Veterans Coordination Commission.

May will have research displayed as part of the "Native American Heritage" traveling exhibit

Mary Jo May, senior Black Hills State University social science education major from Kyle, will have her research displayed at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fort Meade Nov. 16 -17 in the Credit Union corridor. She will be at the exhibit Wednesday, Nov. 16 to answer questions and share her experience with visitors.
