Paul E. Young, M.S.
Research Analyst
Paul Young received his M.S. in Physical Education from South Dakota State University in 1983. He received his B.S. in Physical Education from Black Hills State University in 1978. For the past 15 years he has been the Fitness Director for the Donald E. Young Sports and Fitness Center on the campus of Black Hills State University where he was responsible for the basic operations of the fitness room and exercise program design for faculty, staff, students, and members. He was the first person in the state of South Dakota to receive certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association in 1985. He also served as strength coach for varsity athletics at BHSU. As an adjunct instructor for the department of physical education, he has taught classes in; exercise physiology, human anatomy & physiology, kinesiology, physical conditioning, and substance use and abuse. Since starting with the American Indian Health Research Program in January of 2007, he has been involved in training seminars for the staff of the Crow Tribal Wellness Program on resistance training exercise for health. He not only brings many years of experience in the field of exercise science to the job but he also brings eleven years of political experience as an elected official, as a city councilman, for the city of Spearfish.
