Jace DeCory

Jace Cuney DeCory, M.Ed., (Lakota/Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe), has been an Instructor with the American Indian Studies Program at Black Hills State University since January 1984, teaching in a variety of disciplines. Currently affiliated with the Department of History & Social Sciences, College of Arts & Sciences, Jace teaches primarily History and Sociology courses. Jace's interests lie in Lakota history, art, philosophy, Indian women and cultural change. Jace’s guiding forces are her two sons, Sam, Jr. and Dawson. She enjoys beading baby moccasins for relatives and friends. Jace credits the Lakota elders for providing guidance, prayers and support throughout her life.
EDUCATION:
Jace has a proponent of healthy lifestyles for Indigenous people and has worked to develop health-related materials to inform and educate. She has given presentations at various health-related workshops, including the use of traditional tobacco (cansasa) and it’s use in Lakota society for ceremony and prayer. Jace was instrumental in the development of a culture guide to assist folks working with American Indian people, entitled, Cultural Guide to American Indian Tribes in Montana and Wyoming, 2006, in her work with Project Export. Jace is currently working on culture guides for several other SD Tribal groups. Mitakuye Oyasin (For All My Relations)
