Dear Business Owner: ARE YOU SOMETIMES SHORT STAFFED?
A flexible workforce, “Jackets on the Job”, a BHSU student temporary help service provided through the Center for Business, Entrepreneurship & Tourism at Black Hills State University is here to help!
Q: “Didn’t I hear about Jackets on the Job in the fall?”
A: Yes. You may remember some publicity announcing the trial start up period of “Jackets on the Job”, a student temporary help service. During the trial period, we had more than 40 students enlisted to fulfill temporary work assignments. We learned from the trial period and have made some improvements. We have reworked the business model to collaborate with known community businesses and invite you to be a part of this collaboration to fill your temporary workforce shortages and provide temporary work assignments for BHSU students. We look forward to introducing our students to the business community to gain valuable experience and to provide flexible help for you!
Q: How does it work?
1. You, as a business, sign up for membership to use the service. There is an annual fee of $20 to join the service which will be invoiced after your first completed job. We will track your requests, students that worked well for you, and students you would rehire for future temp assignments. A service fee of $10 per student hired, regardless of length of assignment, will be invoiced after each job. Simply return the enclosed registration card or call Dillon @ 642-1258.
2. As you foresee an event or planned absence which could be filled with temporary help, contact “Jackets on the Job”. Though we may be able to fill SOME requests with short notice, please plan and allow up to three days to secure the requested help. Ideally, we’d like to get job request in advance and will keep a calendar with your forecasted workforce needs to ensure students are available.
Examples:
• “I need two people to count inventory next month before we move to our new location.”
• “I need someone to answer phones and enter data while my staff attends training.”
• “I need five extra servers for a banquet we have scheduled in June.”
3. Complete and sign the employer contract located on our website: www.cbet-bhsu.org
Fax it to 642-6344.
4. Our student manager will then recruit for the specific skills you request and assign the right student(s) to your job. We request that you offer a minimum rate of $8/hour. You will be contacted with the student contact information, and they will be given yours.
5. Students will report to you as requested on the given date with the proper identification for employment. To ensure compliance with the IRS, the students should be set up on your payroll to be paid as you pay your other employees.
6. Upon completion of the assignment, you will receive a request for feedback on performance of the student temp, and an invoice for the service fee of $10/student hired.
