Devils Tower Trek
Photo Walk

Black Hills photographers Steve Babbitt and Dick Kettlewell will lead morning and afternoon workshops at America’s first national monument, Devils Tower. Located about an hour west of Spearfish South Dakota in the northeastern corner of Wyoming, Devils tower rises over 1200 feet above the Belle Fourche River and is surrounded by pine forest and grasslands.

The workshop will concentrate on the breathtaking views of the tower, the surrounding landscape, the local wildlife and with luck, the rock climbers that frequent Devils Tower. A visit to Devils Tower is an unparalled photographic opportunity.

Photographers Notes.

Meeting Point.
Participants will meet at the Faculty/Staff Parking Lot near Meier Hall at Black Hills State University.  Participants will have to drive their own vehicles.  We will encourage and assist with car pooling. We are trying to have a passenger van or two available for use.  It is about an hour and twenty minute drive to Devil's Tower.

Things to know.
Participants are responsible for National Park entry fees into the Monument.  The standard daily use fee is $10 per vehicle. Annual and senior park passes are also accepted.

Things to bring.
A wide angle lense is the first thought when you approach the monument.   A good polarizer will also get use.  There is a chance to use macro and telephotos as well.

There are a variety of optional hiking options.  Parctipants can take hikes that are as easy or hard as they wish.
