Autumn on the Belle Fourche River
Photo drive and walk

Led by Black Hills nature photographer Dick Kettlewell in morning and afternoon shoots, this river walk will explore some of the unparalleled beauty of a prairie river and one of its better examples, the Belle Fourche.

Beginning at the Devil’s Tower National Monument, we will concentrate on the river’s great variety of landscape opportunities including red bluffs, autumn cottonwoods and grasslands vistas.

Participants will meet at the Faculty Parking lot near Meier hall at Black Hills State University.  Participants will have to drive their own vehicles.  We will do encourage and will assist with car-pooling.

Drive time.
It is about an hour and twenty-minute drive to Devil's Tower.

What to know.
Participants are responsible for National Park entry fees into the Monument.  The standard daily use fee is $10 per vehicle. Annual and senior park passes are also accepted.

What to bring.
A wide-angle lens and a dependable tripod are absolute necessities, but you’ll also find some use with a medium range zoom lens like an 80-200 or a bit shorter. And don’t forget a polarizer to enhance those great prairie skies.
