Adventure Center fall 2002 events
Sept. 3, 3 p.m.
– A hike in Spearfish Canyon will take students to Devil’s Bathtub and
Roughlock Falls. This event takes place on the second day of New Student Days
and had over 30 participants last year.
Sept. 4, 4 p.m. – A disc golf workshop for all students
includes an informational video and instruction by Don Altmyer, BHSU professor
and disc golf guru. There have been changes to the course due to construction
and new course maps are available in the center.
Sept. 6, 4 p.m. – Take part in a free disc-golf
tournament and meet people, win prizes, and have fun. This is your chance to
familiarize yourself with BHSU’s 18-hole course.
Sept. 7, all day – The center offers 50 percent off on
all equipment rentals in conjunction with the University Programming Team’s
stay on campus weekend.
Sept.10, 6 p.m. – All students interested in joining the
pool league will meet in the center; league play will take place on Tuesdays at
6 p.m. beginning Sept. 17.
Sept. 14, 10 a.m. – A fly-fishing seminar with professor
Charles Lamb in Spearfish Creek provides instruction for beginners and
enthusiasts. Poles will be rented for $5.
Sept. 22, 11 a.m. – Carpool up Spearfish Canyon for a
scenic drive and explore hiking trails, waterfalls, and stop for a picnic.
Sept. 29, 9 a.m. – Head for Custer State Park for the
Chili Feed and Arts Festival in conjunction with the Annual Custer State Park
Buffalo Round-up. Sign up early in the Adventure Center as transportation may be
limited.
Oct. 9, 6 p.m. – Compete in a ping-pong tournament.
Oct. 18-20 – Spend the weekend hiking and camping at
Harney Peak. Bring your own gear or rent it at half price from the center. Sign
up early because the provided transportation will be limited.
Oct. 27 – The Adventure Center’s Halloween event will
include everything from ghost hunting tours to murder mysteries.
Nov. 2 – Snow shoe or hike the local hills to get some
exercise, enjoy the outdoors, and maybe meet some new faces.
Nov. 16 – Carpool to Rapid City’s new Roosevelt Park
Ice Arena for indoors ice-skating. Participants will purchase their own
admission and skate rentals.
Nov. 20, 7 p.m. – Turkey Bingo in the Student Union
Market Place offers prizes, like turkeys, to all students, faculty, staff and
their families.
Dec. 11 – For the Moonlight Cross-Country Ski Trip,
venture out into the hills at night and ski under the crisp, clear starlit sky.
Skis are available for rent at half price from the center.
