The
Yellow Jacket Foundation at Black Hills State will have an
additional $16,800 in its scholarship fund, a new all-time high,
thanks to the 12th annual Gold Dust Yellow Jacket Golf Classic and
Sports and Leisure Auction.
The
annual fundraiser, which is open to the public, featured an 18-hole
Texas best-shot golf tournament and a sports and leisure auction.
Both events are designed to raise money to support Yellow Jacket
athletics.
Steve
Meeker, institutional advancement director at BHSU and coordinator
of the fundraiser, said, "This year’s event was a big success
considering we are comparing funds raised against last year’s
event that included an all-school reunion. We were able to keep
expenses down this year that helped us push over the top. We also
want to thank the Gold Dust for their continued support; without
them it would be difficult to set the fund-raising records we do.”
This
year there was a tie for team honors with both foursomes shooting 10
under par 61. Members of the tournament's winning foursomes were Ron
Junek, Jim Rarick, Ryan Junek and Tom Odom and Mark Brockley, Gord
Meeker, Ron Meeker and Steve Meeker. Each received $50 in auction
money, a BHSU t-shirt and a $25 gift certificate at the Spearfish
Canyon Pro Shop. Financial Benefits/Harvey Krautschun, the Yellow
Jacket Foundation and the BH Alumni Association donated prizes.
