Emerging Leaders Fall 2012
Thursdays September 13 – October 18
3:30 – 4:45 pm – Student Union Trump Conference Room
Session 1: Leadership 101 – Am I Leader?
Join us as we begin to explore the wonderful concepts and learning opportunities of leadership. Through interactive discussions and group activities we will learn more about what the leadership gurus have to say about leadership. More importantly, we will discuss how you might incorporate these leadership concepts into your daily life.
Session 2: Building a Team
You may have heard the saying, “There is no ‘I’ in team.” That is what this session is all about. We will delve into the importance of building a successful team and how each individual makes the team stronger. Additionally, we will discuss how individuals can help and/or hinder this process.
Session 3: Communication: Let’s Talk AND Listen!
Have you ever thought that no one listens or understands you? Have you ever found yourself in the middle of a conversation and not knowing what the person is saying to you because you are so busy trying to come up with a response before that person is done talking? Have you ever delegated a task to someone and the final outcome is not anything that you had requested? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this session is for you. Through communication exercises and groups discussion we will explore the wonderful and complex concepts of communication.
Session 4: Ethical Decisions – How do you make the RIGHT Decision?
Doing what is right is not always the easiest decision or solution. But, what if you do not know what IS the right decision? During this session we’ll look at some case studies to see what leaders should do in tough situations.
Session 5: Values & Goal Setting – Moving Forward
Knowing who we are, what we believe and where we are going seem to be fairly simple concepts. However, in leadership situations and group development, there are many aspects and factors leaders need to consider. During this session we will clarify our personal values and discuss how our values help, and at times hold back, the groups with whom we work. Additionally, we will begin a personal goal-setting exercise which will help define and direct your personal leadership.
Session 6: Celebrating Ourselves
One important aspect of leadership and team development is celebrating our accomplishments and the relationships we establish through our organizational interactions. However, this is also one aspect that is often overlooked and neglected. So many times, we get something done and immediately start the next project without the final wrap up and celebration. So, join us for this final Grand Hurrah as we celebrate the Emerging Leaders Program!
