Jordan is in his fifth year at Black Hills State University and will graduate in May of this year with a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication. His concentration is in Public Relations and he will have a double minor in Business Administration and Marketing. He is currently a full-time college student and high school basketball coach in Lead/Deadwood. Jordan has gained marketing experience through his internship at JKD & Company, a marketing and public relations firm in Lakewood, CO. The real-world experience working on various projects for companies around the Denver area, has taught him many valuable skills in both marketing and public relations. He has also helped create marketing and public relations plans through the experiential learning exercises for local businesses. Jordan is the president of the Public Relations Club and the Secretary of Buzz Marketing.
Danielle Doney is currently a senior at Black Hills State University pursuing dual bachelor’s degrees in Marketing, as well as graphic design and communication. She is the vice president of Buzz Marketing.
Danielle has held a variety of internships and professional positions which have provided her with exceptional skills in the marketing and graphic design fields. Skills acquired during her internships include: the creativity of design and advertising, formation of promotional pieces, networking, social media, creative writing, and event coordination.
Since 2010, Doney’s professional attitude and strong work ethic has given her the opportunity of appearing on the Dean’s List every semester. She was also a nominee and attendee of the National Youth Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., as well as recipient of a Gold Award and Runner-Up for Best of Show in the local ADDY Awards.
Kyle is a fourth year business student with a minor in Marketing. He currently works for the Marketing and Communications Department at the university. His responsibility in this role is to create interactive materials and video tutorials for the faculty and students, and maintain the school’s website under the supervision of the web coordinator at Black Hills State University. He gained hands-on marketing experience from his internship with Black Hills & Badlands Tourism Association and conducted marketing projects for local small businesses. He traveled with the organization to various cities for festivals where they promoted the Black Hills region of South Dakota.
Dr. Wei Song received her Ph.D. in Marketing/Management from the University of Edinburgh, UK. She has solid international experience in the business world. She has worked for a major US corporation as a senior facility analyst. She has taught classes in a range of universities in the USA, Germany, United Kingdom, Canada and China. Currently, Dr. Song is an associate professor of marketing in the School of Business at Black Hills State University. Her research interests are in the areas of marketing strategy, consumer behavior, social media marketing, and the U.K.’s own brand strategic model in emerging markets. In addition to the academic focus, Dr. Song has conducted and supervised more than 20 projects for international, national and local businesses in the area of marketing strategies. She is also a recipient of multiple research grants and academic awards.
Patrick will be graduating in the fall of 2014 from Black Hills State University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management with Marketing minor. He is currently working with the Sanford Lab to help them market themselves to the community with Integrated Marketing Communications. Along with that, Patrick is also helping the Lookout Lounge, which is located inside the Best Western, here in Spearfish. He is performing marketing research so that the company can gain a better understanding of their target customers and how they should be marketing to them.
Heather is a 2012 graduate of Black Hills State University, she graduated with dual bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration, specializing in Management and Marketing. Heather is currently obtaining her master’s degree in Business Administration through Black Hills State University with a graduation date of May 2014. She also works as a graduate assistant for the Marketing Communications Department on campus. Heather has conducted numerous marketing projects for multiple profit and non-profit organizations throughout Spearfish and Rapid City, including recent projects for Rapid City Regional Airport, VFW and Philly Ted’s. She is the current president of Buzz Marketing and looks forward to helping local businesses with their marketing needs.
Darick will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Marketing in December of this year. Experiential projects that he has completed during his time at BHSU include: a retail management plan for Hudson & Main, as well as a marketing management plan for Outlet Pontoons. His current project is an integrated marketing communications plan for Sanford Laboratories. Darick is a marketing research assistant for Dr. Wei Song and is a member of the BHSU football team.
Caryn will graduate in May 2014 from Black Hills State University with her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, specializing in Marketing and Hospitality and Tourism Management. While studying at BHSU, Caryn has completed an integrated marketing communications plan for Recreation Station, a retail management marketing plan for Hudson & Main, a marketing management plan for Outlet Pontoons, and a five year tourism plan for the city of Belle Fourche. Caryn is currently assisting with a marketing research project for Dr. Wei Song and is the Treasurer of Buzz Marketing.
Jon Horner will graduate this coming May with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration specializing in Marketing. During his academic career at Black Hills State University he has been on the Dean’s list multiple times. He has also worked as a research assistant for Dr. Ignatius Cahyanto, on the Mountain Pine Beetle Research Project. For that particular project, he traveled the Black Hills region and conducted research on the effects of the pine beetle on businesses and lifestyle habits. In addition, he and his group members have developed the marketing plan for Juneks, a local car dealership. Currently, Jon is working on the integrated marketing communication project for Sanford Lab.
Samantha Dietrich is a sophomore at Black Hills State University. This is her first year at BHSU; she previously attended South Dakota State University. Samantha is an Entrepreneurial Studies major and has maintained a 3.9-4.0 GPA throughout her entire education. She is currently a semester ahead of schedule in her college career and plans to open up a clothing boutique and coffee shop in her hometown of Rapid City once she graduates. Samantha has been working at a local boutique in Rapid City, known as Shangri La, since September. This makes her familiar with the some of the pros and cons of owning and working at a local business. Currently, Samantha and her Buzz Marketing team members are conducting a marketing project for Philly Ted's Spearfish location. Samantha is looking forward to helping local businesses market their products the best way possible, as well as improving her marketing skills in the process.
