What it takes to start your benefits:
- The Post 9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) - visit www.gibill.va.gov for information and application procedures; provide a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility to the BHSU Veteran's Affairs office
- GI Bill - Active Duty (Chapter 30)
- Application - complete on-line at www.gibill.va.gov (choose apply on-line, education, start VONAPP), complete & submit the application and required documents electronically
- DD 214 member 4 copy (provide a copy to the Records office, also)
- Kicker paperwork, if applicable
- provide a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility to the BHSU Veteran's Affairs office (you will receive this after applying for your benefit)
- GI Bill - National Guard (Chapter 1606)
- Application - see procedures under GI Bill - Active Duty
- NOBE (Notice of Basic Eligibility)
- Kicker paperwork, if applicable
- DD 214 - provide to the Records office
- provide a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility to the BHSU Veteran's Affairs office (you will receive this after applying for your benefit)
- REAP (Chapter 1607) - if you have never received 1606 benefits
- Application - see procedures under GI Bill - Active Duty
- NOBE (Notice of Basic Eligibility)

- DD 214 - provide to the Records office

- REAP (Chapter 1607) - if you have received or currently receive 1606 benefits
- Complete & submit Change of Place of Training form (22-1995) electronically - go to www.gibill.va.gov , choose Information for Benefit Recipients, education forms, 22-1995; print a copy for your records and provide a copy to the BHSU Veteran's Affairs office
- Provide most current DD 214
- Dependent Benefits (Chapter 35)

- Vocational Rehabilitation (Chapter 31)
- Meet with VR counselor to complete paperwork
- Contact BHSU Veteran's Affairs office when you register for classes

Free Tutor Assistance
This is a special allowance for students who need individual tutoring. All veterans who are receiving educational benefits are eligible according to certain restrictions listed below. If you have any questions call your VA representative at (605) 642-6113.
The school must certify the tutor’s qualifications and the hours of tutoring.
CHAPTER 31 (Vocational Rehab)
· To apply, complete VA TUTOR REQUEST FORM
· Must have a deficiency in a subject, making the tutoring necessary
· Must be enrolled at least ½ time or more
CHAPTER 30, 35,1606 and 1607
· To apply, complete VA Form 22-1990T
· Must have a deficiency in a subject, making the tutoring necessary
