Student Health Services is not intended to replace a student's need for health insurance or to treat chronic or serious health problems. It is recommended that students secure individual health insurance through the State of South Dakota student plan, through a parent's policy, or by contacting an insurance agent.
The South Dakota Board of Regents has endorsed an accident and sickness insurance plan for eligible students at all state universities. Normal medical problems arising while the students are on campus can be handled by Health Services. Each year, however, some students suffer major illnesses or accidents on or off campus that require medical attention or hospitalization beyond that which can be provided by Health Services. Without medical coverage, an unexpected illness could inflict financial hardships on you and your family, and could make it financially difficult to continue your education.
