Congratulations to the winners who have been drawn from the students who registered for Fall 2012 classes by April 16th! The winners for the Fall 2012 semester are:  

Register Early, Smile Often InfographicWe are coming up to the end of early registration, which is March 22 through April 16. Have you registered for classes yet? Remember that if you have less than 60 credit hours you must meet with your advisor BEFORE you can register. To help make this process as straight forward as possible for you, we created an infographic that covers the steps to register for classes and includes information about Mandatory Advising. 

 A  hold or restriction is an administrative action placed on your student record to get your attention by preventing you from receiving transcripts, registering for or dropping classes, or receiving grades.  The hold is a  
 Fall early registration begins March 22nd! It is important to check the date and time you have been assigned for your registration on WebAdvisor and register as early as you are permitted. 

All students who are seeking a degree from one of South Dakota's regental institutions must complete  a CAAP Proficiency Exam.

The BHSU Spring Career Fair is Wednesday, February 15th. Doors open to the SU Jacket Legacy Room at 10 am, and we close at 2:30 pm.  

Academic advising is a critical process throughout your education.  It's just as important to be informed your freshman year as it is your senior year.  Meet with your advisor often to help you plan, implement, and succeed in your goal of graduation from Black Hills State University.  The BHSU website offers

You can avoid paying late charges for tuition by taking the following steps:

Do  you or your parents have questions about the college experience?   The “Off to College” magazine is available at the Student Success Center, Woodburn Hall, first floor. The magazine is an excellent guide for the college student and their parents. Stop by a pick up a copy!


Census date is January 20 for full term courses. Make sure that you have dropped or added all classes before this date.
Are you a high school senior or college freshman? The Davis-Bahcall Scholarship deadline was extended to Jan. 20th.
Patrick Fink, SDSU nursing advisor, is offering an SDSU Application Workshop on Wednesday, January 18th from 9 am to noon in the Student Success Center Conference Room 120, located in Woodburn Annex.

All students must complete the Spring 2012 Attendance Confirmation via WebAdvisor  or their refund will be delayed.

Join us every Wednesday from 12 to 12:50 pm and Thursday 12:30 to 1:20 pm in the Student Success Center conference room 120, first floor of Woodburn Hall for Student Success Strategies Workshops.  Topics  have been selected to enhance your academic and personal success!  The same topic will be covered both days each week. 

Midterm has passed and are over and now is the time to make sure you are on the path to success.  The Student Success Center has prepared a After Midterms Checklist that will guide you.

The Spring schedule of classes is available on WebAdvisor right now -- you can start planning your schedule for next semester.  Early registration for Spring 2012 begins October 31st!  Check the date and time assigned for your registration on WebAdvisor. It is important to register as early as you are permitted. 

Check the Center for Academic Success Tutoring Services webpage for the services that are currently available.  New tutoring services will be added as they become available.  If you would like assistance obtaining services that are not listed, please call 642-6106.

Online classes can be just as difficult as taking in-person classes; in fact, they may take a lot more time and effort. Some people learn better in person with a traditional class.  Being in a class with others can help some students understand the concepts being taught in a college class. Also,

Whether you are interested in an internet class, a course held in Rapid City, or want to enroll in a class on campus, BHSU is offering a variety of classes this summer including general education classes, business and management classes, and special interest classes.

The Center for Academic Success can help with any problems or questions you have regarding Fall registration. This week you do not need an appointment.  An advisor will be available from 8 am to 5 pm -  so just stop by! 

The Center for Academic SuccesS (CASS) staff will offer advising and registration assistance on Thursday evening, April 14, from 7:00-10:00 p.m., in the BHSU Library Jacket Java.

It’s not too early to be preparing for final exams and papers.  Please attend this Learning Strategies presentation at 5PM on Thursday, April 7, in Jonas 309. It will focus on preparing you for your final exams and wrapping up last papers and projects.

With all you hear in the media these days, you may have doubts about the worth of a college degree.  Don’t despair!

Registering for your Summer and Fall classes as early as possible will keep you smiling!  Why?  Each class has a limited number of seats, and we want you "smiling" because you are able to take all the classes you need and at the time you want to take them.

The freshmen students of GS 100-002, University Experience, have plotted out their futures in a very visual format.  Come view this creative presentation of their Vision Boards and PowerPoints this Friday, March 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., in the Student Union Jacket Legacy Room.
