Do you have a degree and want a secondary teaching certification without the 3-4 semester time commitment?
Project SELECT is an accelerated secondary teacher certification program unique to BHSU. This program embraces the philosophy of theory into practice, with active learning experiences supported through the coaching and mentorship of highly trained professionals in a field based environment. Eligible students include secondary education majors with content jajor completed, K-12 majors with content major completed and Post Baccalaureate graduates with a content major seeking teacher certification
Project SELECT offers the following benefits to you:

Complete certification (with all practicum and student teaching) in a 10 month time frame.

Complete certification on a 'fast track'
2 semesters/Project SELECT versus 3 semesters/"stand alone" program.

Is an accelerated route to teacher certification. You would receive interactive, dynamic instruction, while experiencing the support of a cohort to promote reflective practice.

Offered in Rapid City and Douglas Schools

provides the pre-service teacher with expanded field experience (minimum of 21 weeks).
Who is eligible?
Individuals who have degrees from accredited colleges or universities that could lead to teaching in secondary
content areas and have a grade point average (GPA) of 2.6 or higher are eligible. Students in the master’s degree
program must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher in graduate courses.
Is Project SELECT right for you?
Individuals who…
• are able to complete a rigorous full-time, ten-month program
• can complete the teacher candidate internship in schools in the Rapid City area

throughout the application process.
Email a copy of your unofficial transcripts with a request to evaluate them for eligibility to Micheline Nelson,
Director of Field Experiences at BHSU, at Micheline.Nelson@BHSU.edu.
Apply to Project SELECT upon eligibility to participate. The application is available at
www.BHSU.edu/ProjectSELECT/Application
Register for the Praxis Content Knowledge test indicated on your transcript review. For more information
on the Praxis exams, go to www.ets.org. Under Praxis select South Dakota for information including
registration, test dates, and other testing information.

• Complete interview scheduled by the coordinator.
• Apply to BHSU at www.BHSU.edu/Apply and select Graduate, specifying the MS in Secondary Education.
How to Move to Full Admission to
Teacher Preparation Program and Master’s Degree
• Complete Praxis content knowledge test with passing scores by August.
• Successfully complete the coursework with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Complete the application packet for admission to the Professional Teacher Preparation Program. The form
specific to Project SELECT will be mailed to you from the BHSU Office of Field Experiences
