It includes when and how payments are made, the cost of tuition and fees per credit hour, and the cost of on-campus housing and meal plans. All rates are subject to change.

12-13 Undergraduate Tuition and Fees Per Credit Hour

Edit Resident - $244.00

A resident student is a person who has continuously resided in South Dakota for at least twelve consecutive months immediately preceding the first scheduled day of classes of the semester or other session in which the individual registers.

The rate listed includes the University Support and General Activity Fees listed below in the Undergraduate Fees Per Credit Hour category.

Edit Over Sixty-five - $150.95

There is a 75% reduction in tuition to one-fourth the cost of tuition to students 65 years of age or older, during the calendar year in which he or she is enrolled, on a space-available basis.   There is no reduction in fees.

The rate listed includes the University Support and General Activity Fees listed below in the Undergraduate Fees Per Credit Hour category.

 

Edit State Employees - $181.90

Employees of the state of South Dakota who meet certain specific criteria will be eligible for a reduced tuition rate of one-half the resident tuition rate for a maximum of six semester hours each semester.  Employees should contact their supervisors for further information.

Edit Teacher Certification - $181.90

Certain elementary and secondary school teachers and vocational instructors may pursue any undergraduate or graduate course upon payment of 50% of tuition and 100% of required fees. 

The rate listed includes the University Support and General Activity Fees listed below in the Undergraduate Fees Per Credit Hour category.

Eligibility is limited to teachers and vocational instructors who:

  • are bona fide residents of South Dakota;
  • are employed by an accredited school as a teacher as defined in Title 13;
  • are required by state law, administrative rules or an employment contract to attend college as a condition of employment or to maintain a certificate to teach;
  • are certified as eligible for this program by which they are employed ;
  • and maintain an average academic grade of 3.0 or better.
Edit Non-Resident - $306.15

A non-resident is a person who has NOT continuously resided in South Dakota for at least twelve consecutive months immediately preceding the first scheduled day of class of the semester or other session in which the individual registers.

The rate listed includes the University Support and General Activity Fees listed below in the Undergraduate Fees Per Credit Hour category.

Edit Minnesota Reciprocity:  $276.30

Minnesota residents shall be charged the rate established in the tuition reciprocity agreement between the South Dakota Board of Regents and the Minnesota Higher Education Coordinating Board. This tuition rate is set annually in the summer. The rate noted will be recalculated for the fall/spring terms during the summer term each year.

Externally Supported - $40.00

Externally supported is a special rate designed for a specific program, usually a week or so in length, orchestrated between the University and a third party (like CAMSE or a School District).


12-13 Undergraduate Fees Per Credit Hour

University Support/Salary Competitiveness Fee  - $90.30

The university support fee supports the instructional and administrative service areas related to the institutional mission.  Examples of areas funded include direct instruction, libraries, computer centers, museums, admissions, registration, financial aid, administrative offices, general institutional expenses, and the payment of debt incurred for the construction, maintenance, repair, and equipping of campus buildings, except for student unions and auxiliary enterprise, athletic facilities, and wellness facilities.   It is assessed on all state-support courses and remedial courses delivered on campus.  The salary competitiveness fee is used to enhance faculty and non-faculty exempt salaries. 

Edit General Activity Fee - $29.50
The general activity fee supports student functions related to the co-curricular and extracurricular activities and operations and payment of debt incurred for the construction, maintenance, repair and equipping of student unions, athletic facilities and wellness facilities as approved by the Board.  Examples of activities funded by GAF are student organizations, cultural events, homecoming, student government, yearbooks, student newspapers, campus radio and television stations, child care, student activities, athletics, intramurals, student health services, and the operational and debt expenses for student unions.  It is assessed on all state-support courses delivered on campus.

12-13 Graduate Tuition and Fees Per Credit Hour
