International Relations and Global Engagement Office

The International Relations and Global Engagement Office is a center point for all Black Hills State University community members. We offer the many resources to international and domestic students while also helping parents, faculty, staff and community members. The international office works to support study abroad programs, international student admissions and retention, Academic English instruction and contributes significantly to campus globalization efforts.

International Student Admissions and Retention The International Relations and Global Engagement office provides support for all international students from the very first day through graduation or program completion! Our knowledgeable staff are here to help answer your questions before you and arrive and provide extensive support upon arrival.

Academic English Preparation Program The Academic English Program (AEPP) prepares students to successfully study at the university level. The program focuses on the language of the classroom. Comprised of four foundational courses , students study intensive English for the first semester and then try their skill in university classes for the second semester.

Study Abroad Every BHSU student deserves the opportunity to Study Abroad. That’s why we have programs in many different countries for different lengths of time for many different budgets levels. Campus Globalization Year after year, technology advancements, economic development and the ease of world-wide communication make our community a more global place. The international office spearheads a number of campus events, programming opportunities and trainings to help understand globalization and how it pertains to each of us. These efforts are not done alone and therefore a strategic collaboration with university partners, faculty, staff, community members and student groups help prompt conversations on globalization efforts in the community.

International Orientation Orientation programs designed for international students provide resources that help these students adjust to life in the United States and at BHSU.

Our faculty members are known for their dedication and commitment to students.  As an International student you will have the opportunity to be involved with campus events and organizations as soon as you arrive.  The International Student Organization and Global Awareness Committee are active components of the Internationalization of BHSU.

BHSU takes an active role in the many exciting initiatives in the Black Hills region that include innovative changes in education, development of a world-class science lab, and emerging technology-related business.  BHSU offers more than 80 academic programs at the associate, bachelors, and masters degree levels while its dynamic geographical location provides the ideal environment for combining outdoor recreation and collegiate educational opportunities.

More than seventy campus groups and the BHSU Athletics program welcome new students to our campus and provide all students opportunities to develop leadership and teamwork skills.  BHSU students work with faculty mentors in hands-on undergraduate research projects in an active on-going basis.

International Student Organization: 

The International Student Organization at Black Hills State University has both International and domestic student members.  This organization developed as a result of the interests and desires of International students to formalize their involvement and International presence on campus.  International students hold offices in this organization, and plan social events.  Initiatives are underway to broaden the community connection with this organization and its membership that include community host families, campus celebrations, International cuisine and other events.
