1. Type the following address into your web browser (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Safari, etc.) https://account.bhsu.edu

2. At the login screen, enter your email address and your current email password even if it is expired

3. If this is your first time logging into the password self-service portal you will have to set three security questions. If you have already logged in before, skip to step 6

4. After entering your answers, click “Save Responses”

5. Press “Continue” on the next screen

6. Now, the system will say your password is expired and ask for a new password. You cannot use one of your last 10 passwords.

7. Once you have typed your new password into both boxes, hit "Change Password". Note: If the portal flashes and returns you to enter in another password, the system did not accept your password. Generally this is either a previous password or contains someone's name. Please choose a new password.

8. Once your password is accepted, you will see a progress bar while your password is changed. Once that bar finishes, your password is now changed and is active for the next 90 days

At BHSU, you will have two main accounts. One account is your email and it will allow you to log into the email system, campus computers, the library system, etc. The other account is your Board of Regents (BORIS) account and is used in D2L and WebAdvisor. Following this guide will help you access both your email and your BORIS accounts.

Getting your Login Information

1. First, you need to know what your usernames are and what your default email password is, so go to https://www.bhsu.edu/iits/login-help in a web browser (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Safari, etc.)

2. Hit the Accept ButtonLoginHelp

3. Select the button next to Student Account (highlighted in blue)

4. Fill out the three boxes with your information and hit "Submit." Make sure to capitialize the first letter of your last name i.e. Smith and follow MMDDYYYY format for your birthdate

Note: If you receive a Login Error, double-check the information that you entered. If you continue to receive the error, click the link on the right for Help Desk and submit a help ticket. Make sure to mention you tried login help and it returned an error.

5. The next page will show you several pieces of information. The important ones to remember are Campus Network Username/E-Mail Address, Web Advisor ID, and Pin/Password

6. Now we are ready to reset your email password

Logging into your Email

1. Before you can access your email, you must reset your default password, so go to https://account.bhsu.edu in your browser

2. This is the Password Service Portal, you can log in using your full email address (Campus Network Username/E-Mail Address) as the username and the Pin/Password as the password (the email address is @yellowjackets.bhsu.edu do not forgot the "S" on yellowjackets)
Note: If you receive an error that the user name or password is not valid, verify that you have entered the information correctly and if you still receive an error, go to http://www.bhsu.edu/IITS/Services/Help-Desk/Request-Help and submit a work ticket

3. Once you have logged in, you will be asked to fill out three recovery questions, then hit Save Answers

  4. Now, the system will say your password is expired and ask for a new password. Make sure to read through the password requirements on the top of the screen

6. Once your password is accepted, you will see a progress bar while your password is changed. Once that bar finishes, your password is now changed and is active for the next 90 days

7. Now, go to http://www.bhsu.edu/email/index.html and select Student Email

8. Log into your email using your full email address and the password you just set

9. You will be prompted to select your Default Language and your Default Time Zone (Spearfish and Rapid City are in the UTC-07:00 Mountain Time Zone)

10. Now you have access to your BHSU email account

Logging into WebAdvisor

1. Keep your email open and open a new tab in your browser

2. Go to https://boris.sdbor.edu/idm/retrieve-email.cfm in your new tab

3. There are two boxes, fill in your Last name (not case sensitive) in the top box

4. Put your WebAdvisor username that we retrieved earlier into the bottom box (generally this is first initial, middle initial, last name - John W Smith = jwsmith) and hit Retrieve my information

5. The next screen will have a drop-down menu filled with your email addresses. Select your Yellowjackets email account out of the list and hit the Send me a link button

6. Go back to your email that is open in the other tab and you will shortly receive an email from idm@sdbor.edu with the subject Password Reset Link, open that email

7. Click the top link in that email

8. A page will open with three boxes. In the top box enter your WebAdvisor username

9. In the bottom boxes, enter your new password. The requirements are on the top of the page. (This can be the same as your email if you would like)

10. Hit the Reset my password button

11. Now you can log into WebAdvisor or D2L with your username and new password. Note: If you log into WebAdvisor with the wrong password three times, you will lock your account. This will automatically unlock after 15 minutes. If you followed the steps above and are still receiving an incorrect login error, contact the Help Desk here

3. Enter your Email Address and your Date of Birth in the MMDDYYYY format. Click that you are not a robot and hit search

4. The next screen displays two options: Recover your password using your Recovery Questions or Send an email to your alternate email. Note: You cannot use Secret Questions unless you have used this system before.

6. Select the Secret Questions and Answers button

7. You will be prompted with two of your three recovery questions. Give the answer to both and hit Check Answers (these are not case sensitive)

8. Now you will be asked to set a new password

Using an Alternate Email to Recover

6. Select the SMS/Email Verification button

7. Log into your alternate email, the email is partially displayed at the top of the screen if you are unsure which email was used

8. The Email will come from BHSUHelpDesk@bhsu.edu with the subject BHSU Forgotten Password Verification

9. There is a link on the top of the email, click that link to open a Change your password page

10. Once you have typed your new password into both boxes, hit "Change Password". Note: If the portal flashes and returns you to enter in another password, the system did not accept your password. Generally this is either a previous password or contains someones name. Please choose a new password.

11. Once your password is accepted, you will see a progress bar while your password is changed. Once that bar finishes, your password is now changed and is active for the next 90 days

If you log into WebAdvisor with the wrong password three times, you will lock your account. This will automatically unlock after 15 minutes. You can change your password while you are waiting for your account to unlock by following the procedure below.

1. Go to https://boris.sdbor.edu/idm/retrieve-email.cfm in a web browser (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Safari, etc.)

2. There are two boxes, fill in your Last name (not case sensitive) in the top box

3. Put your WebAdvisor/D2L username into the bottom box and hit Retreive my information

5. Log into the email that you selected from the list and you will shortly receive an email from idm@sdbor.edu with the subject Password Reset Link, open that email

6. Click the top link in that email
