The Graduate Council met Tuesday, March 20 in Jonas 104 from 3 to 4 p.m.
Present were: Fuller, D. Looney, B. Smith, Siemens, Mettler, Austin, Earley, and Simpson. Absent were: H. Ahmad, A. Ahmad, and Bukralia. Freng attended as a visitor.

Library - Freng reported that faculty and students who were interested in taking any of the national tests like the GRE or GMAT could go to the library website and access
www.learningexpresslibrary.com to see sample tests and how to prepare.

Master of Business Services Management (MSBSM) - Looney reported that the college was still seeking approval to change the degree from the MSBSM to an MSB degree. He had sent more information to the vice president for Academic Affairs supporting such a change. He also reported that there were eight new applicants for the program for next fall.

Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction (MSCI) - Chair reported that the proposed MSCI with a science specialization had been approved at the system vice president's meeting and would be going to the Board of Regents meeting in April. Simpson introduced the request to make changes in the MSCI reading specialization. A motion was made and seconded to approve. Motion passed. Simpson reported that she would be bringing changes to the MSCI technology track to the next meeting. This would reflect changes for certification. Discussion followed about the difference between specialization, certification, and certificates. Chair said he would send members the system definitions.

Master of Science in Integrative Genomics (MSIG) - Siemens reported that the college was still waiting on official notification of approval before advertising the degree. Mettler reported that the five students were going to USD to meet with a professor there.

Master of Science in Strategic Leadership- Chair reported that the intent to plan for this degree had been approved and would be moving forward to the Board in April. The next step would be for the vice president for Academic Affairs to begin the actual planning for the degree.

WebCT - Fuller reported that the request for bids for the new teaching platform would go out in June.
Chair reported that the new BHSU strategic plan would be out later this semester. Considerable discussion was held about why BHSU had not requested a Ph.D. program. Chair said faculty should look at the strategic plan and talk to their college dean if they are interested in new programs.
