Black Hills State University Faculty Senate Minutes

Members present: Randy Royer, (President), Jami Stone (Vice President), Laura Colmenero-Chilberg (Secretary), Jim Hesson, Parthasarathi Nag, Gina Gibson, Chen Wu, David Crawford, Sasha Pursley, Brittney Seitz
3:15 PM -- Senate called to order. Agenda was approved. Motions were made that the minutes for the March 31(Hesson move; Nag 2nd) and March 17 (Nag move; Pursley 2nd) meetings were approved with minor changes. Approved.
Brittney Seitz, the new Student Senate president and student representative for Faculty Senate, was welcomed.
New Business
• Election Results: New faculty senators have been elected from the three colleges. They will attend the final meeting of the year to participate in the election of officers. Terms were defined.
o CAS – Gina Gibson, Sonya Pagel, Kathleen Parrow
o COE – Jim Hesson
o CBT – David Crawford
• Curriculum Proposals: Kathleen Parrow attended Faculty Senate to discuss the large number of curriculum proposals that were under review. There was a great deal of discussion on the need to make sure curriculum changes are communicated to all affected departments and colleges.
The following curriculum proposals were reviewed and approved:
o Add prerequisites to ARTH 456
o Make changes to BSEd Composite Music
o Terminate BA Composite Vocal Music Major and BSEd Composite Vocal Music Major
o Program modifications for Mass Communication emphases including Public Relations, and Journalism and Broadcasting minor
o Changes to MCOM 131, MCOM 253, MCOM 254, MCOM 330, MCOM 347
o Program changes for Psychology major and minor
o Offer common course PSYC 302 AND 302L
o Deletion of PSYC 305, 305L, 313L, 327, 422, 477
o Add new courses PSYC 410 AND 452
o Program modifications to Business Administrations major and BS Composite Major in Industrial Technology
o Add new course BADM 280 AND TECH 342
o Drop crosslist with ECON 476 for BADM 476
o Change description on MIS 205
o Delete ED 410, EDFN 366, ELED 413, SCI 200
o Make modification to SEED 408
• The following curriculum proposal was reviewed and not approved. President Royer will attach a letter explaining the failure to approve.
o PSYC 270
Next meeting will be May 5, 2010.
