Recent Black Hills State University graduate Mike Miller used his class projects in his final semester to raise awareness of the mountain pine beetles plaguing the Black Hills area.
Less than a year ago, Miller had no idea that mountain pine beetles existed. After learning of the devastating problem while working last summer as a security guard for Spearfish Forest Products, Inc., Miller dedicated his last semester at BHSU doing everything he could to get the word out on the pine beetle problem.

A group of Black Hills State University biology and outdoor education students spent the beginning of their spring semester getting face to face with the wolves of Minnesota’s Northwoods. Six undergraduate and one graduate student participated in a program at the Audubon Center of the North Woods in Sandstone, Minn., which allowed the students to learn tracking and observation techniques to study wolves, and other large predator animals, and their environment.

When Charles Rambow was deciding on the subject for his master’s thesis paper in 1970, he didn’t have to look very far for inspiration. He found the topic in some old clothes his mother had cleaned out of his grandparents’ closet.
Rambow was shocked to learn that what he thought was a choir robe was actually his grandfather’s Ku Klux Klan initiation robe.
