ARSD 24:15:06:04.
A 5-8 middle level education endorsement requires completion of eight  semester hours of coursework in the design of curriculum and  instructional strategies for middle level learners, developmental  characteristics of the middle level learner, and other topics relative  to the concepts of middle level education or the middle level learner  and the completion of a practicum, internship, or student teaching in a  formally organized middle school or junior high, or the passage of the  middle school pedagogy test. Verified teaching experience in a formally  organized middle school or junior high within the five-year period  immediately preceding the application may be accepted in lieu of the  above field experiences at the equivalency of one year’s teaching  experience for one semester hour credit for a maximum of three semester  hours of the total credit hours required.

A middle level education endorsement for language arts, mathematics,  natural science, and social science shall be added by the passage of the  designated state content test.
