<title>Avoid extra semesters and $$$</title>
<link>http://www.bhsu.edu/StudentLife/Learning/StudentSuccessCenter/Blog/tabid/11281/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/4497/Avoid-extra-semesters-and-.aspx</link>
<description>There is nothing more frustrating than not being able to get into a class you need. Too often students have to take extra semesters, because they couldn't get into a class that they needed. Some professors are cool with signing you into a class even if it means overloading the course. Some have a firm line and won't sign in anyone under any circumstance. Save yourself the drama, heartache, and financial burden of taking extra semesters.

Work with your academic advisor. I cannot stress this enough. This person is from your academic program, so they'll know what order courses need to be taken in and when they are offered. Some special courses are only offered in the fall or only in the spring. Some are only offered every other year. Too many students get caught off guard with this exact problem when they self advise. Don't know who your advisor is? WebAdvisor has the answer (under My Profile).
Register ASAP. This should be a no-brainer, but I'm still amazed at how many students wait until early January to register and then complain about classes being filled. Do this before you leave for Thanksgiving break! The earlier you register, the more choices you'll have. This will allow you to tailor a schedule and coursework to fit your life, your work schedule, your academic plan, and your career goals. Look under &quot; My Registration Time&quot; in WebAdvisor to see when you are eligible to register each semester. Early registration began October 29 for Spring AND Summer 2013!

WOW. Only 2 steps to avoid taking extra semesters, graduating late, not to mention spending extra money or taking out unnecessary student loans. Sounds worth it to me. Go online now to register!</description>

<title>Ready for the CAAP Test?</title>

<description>All Regental institutions in South Dakota will be administering the CAAP Proficiency Exam in November. Be sure to check your email for a notice that it is your semester to test. That email also includes a link to acknowledge your attendance and receive your official test date and time.
The proficiency testing is mandatory at all six SouthDakota public universities.&amp;nbsp; If you do not take the proficiency exam, you will not be allowed to register at any of the six institutions for two academic terms! All students must satisfactorily complete and pass all four sections.&amp;nbsp; If you are a SD Opportunity Scholar, you must pass the CAAP exam on your first attempt, or you will lose your scholarship. If you have taken and passed the exam at another institution within the past three years, your scores will be accepted by BHSU if they meet the Board of Regents Policy.
Students who do not pass one or more sections have two opportunities to retest. A FAQ describing the proficiency process and sample questions for the proficiency exams can be found at the following website: http://www.bhsu.edu/StudentLife/Learning/TestingServices/RisingJuniorExam/tabid/1477/Default.aspx
We will also offer Help Sessions in preparation for the test. The information islisted below and on the following website: http://www.bhsu.edu/StudentLife/Learning/TestingServices/RisingJuniorExam/TestSchedule/tabid/1478/Default.aspx
