Donald Young, ’40
Young’s participation and support of the college has not wavered since he first set foot on campus. He has been a student, an athlete, a coach, a professor, and administrator, and an alumni director at BHSC at one time or another during the past 50 years.
He served his country during WWII and in Korea and retired in 1974 from the U.S. Naval Reserve as a captain. He served his community as well. From 1967 to 1976 he served as Spearfish mayor. He also participated on the Sixth District Council of Local Governments, was a representative to the governor’s council, a representative to the Northern Hills Drug and Referral Center, and a South Dakota safety representative.
The physical education facility, the Donald E. Young Sports and Fitness Center was named after him.
