Whirlwind Horse
Black Hills State University will host the annual Kevin Whirlwind Horse Memorial Run/Walk fundraiser Saturday, April 19.  The event, part of Indian Awareness Week at BHSU, raises funds to support a yearly scholarship presented to a Native American sophomore who demonstrates outstanding academic ability and leadership skills.

The Memorial Run/Walk and scholarship were organized in memory of Kevin Whirlwind Horse, a former BHSU student who was killed in a car accident in 1984.  Whirlwind Horse was an active and respected student leader, and the fundraiser serves to recognize the achievements of students working to improve the campus, community, and world through their active pursuit of higher education.

There are race categories for all ages.  The course takes place on the walking path through the City Park and towards Spearfish Canyon and back to the starting point.  A map of the route will be posted in Salem Park prior to the race.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. in Salem Park, which is located at 425 Quincy Street in Spearfish. The registration fee is $15 and all participants will receive a t-shirt.
