Two Black Hills State University graduates recently passed all four sections of the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam on the first attempt. Only about one in ten candidates nationwide pass all four parts in one attempt.
Susan Schofield, a 2005 graduate, was one of 206 South Dakota candidates that sat for 274 parts of the exam during the 2007 testing period.
Jennifer Rice, a 2004 graduate, was one of 213 South Dakota candidates that sat for 293 parts of the exam in 2006. Rice is currently an auditor for Casey Peterson & Associates, LTD in Rapid City.
Schofield and Rice were two of eight CPA candidates statewide to pass all four parts of the exam in one sitting. According to Don Altmyer, associate business professor at BHSU, the impressive fact that South Dakota candidates pass the CPA exam at a rate above the national average indicates the two BHSU graduates are at the top of their field.
