|Black Hills State University outdoor education majors, Nick Bennett, junior from Lead, and Cassie Schaeffer, senior from Slayton, Minn., practice their archery skills during the National Archery in the Schools Program workshop held recently in Pierre.
Four Black Hills State University outdoor education majors were certified as Instructor-Trainers by the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) following a recent workshop held in Pierre. The certification allows them to certify others as archery instructors.
Megan Allen, senior from Meeteetse, Wyo.; Nick Bennett junior from Lead; Jason Hartman, junior from Rapid City; and Cassie Schaeffer, senior from Slayton, Minn.; attended the conference. NASP is designed to teach archery in physical education courses from elementary to high school.
The outdoor education program at BHSU equips students for education positions in parks, nature centers, zoos, aquaria, eco-tourism programs, camps, and wilderness programs. It is the only program in the state that teaches about the outdoors while training in education methods.
