A tree from the BHSU campus is the centerpiece of the holiday display at the Capitol. The tree, a 47-foot spruce, was already scheduled to be removed to allow for the expansion of the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union on the BHSU campus.The tree display, with a theme of The Sparkle of Christmas, continues through Dec. 26. More than 90 trees line the hallways of the first and second floors of the Capitol.
The Black Hills State University Jazz Ensemble is scheduled to perform at the South Dakota State Capitol Saturday, Dec. 8 at 4 p.m. as a part of the annual holiday celebration. A tree from the BHSU campus is the centerpiece of the holiday display at the Capitol.

BHSU facilities services personnel along with state forestry personnel cut the tree which was then transported to Pierre.  Ainsworth Benning Construction donated the use of their crane to assist with the tree removal.

Two decorative wreaths created by Beck’s Nursery, which were made with branches from the state Christmas tree, will be displayed on the BHSU campus. A slice of the tree trunk was also saved and will be used for educational purposes by the state forestry department.
