Black Hills State University was named a Top School in the 2015 Military Advanced Education (MAE) Guide to Colleges and Universities.
The guide was published in the December 2014 issue of MAE, a publication that focuses on current trends in higher education and highlights pressing issues for military students. The guide ranks colleges and universities in the United States based on criteria including military culture, financial assistance, flexibility, and general, online and on campus support. The published rankings allow an easy way for service members and their dependents to find a school that fits their needs. To view BHSU’s listing, go to www.kmimediagroup.com/maedir2015.
“Black Hills State University is a great school for military members and their dependents because of the diverse programs offered in a variety of delivery methods in an area that serves active duty and reserve military installations,” said David Dodson, veterans resource coordinator for BHSU. “The diverse educational opportunities accommodate a variety of student types with varying needs and busy schedules to pursue an education on their terms.”
Dodson said BHSU earned top recognition from MAE for its ease of transferable credits and veteran specific scholarships, as well as events held specifically for veterans including socials, veteran lunches and a new student veteran orientation. Space is provided for a student veteran center on campus and at the University Center – Rapid City, as well. He added that BHSU is located in an area with excellent family recreation and that the university has staff well versed in assisting students in the financial aid and GI Bill application process.
“This ranking goes hand-in-hand with our Military Friendly listing. It is another opportunity to set us apart from our sister schools by doing these little things for our veteran students,” Dodson said. “We want to aid new and returning students the best we can.”
BHSU has been named to the list of Military Friendly Schools by Victory Media for five consecutive years. BHSU has been named to the Military Times “Best for Vets: Business Schools” in 2014 and 2013. It has also made the Military Times “Best for Vets: Colleges” for two years in a row.
