Black Hills State University will host an art fair Wednesday, Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Clare and Josef Meier Hall.
The fair will feature a demonstration and question and answer session by Art Graham, the owner of M. Graham & Co., from 9 to 11 a.m. During his session, “Ask the Colormaker,” Graham, an accomplished artist, colormaker, and former art professor, will discuss the fine art of being a paint maker and how high quality painting supplies are created.
Five art supply manufacturers will be demonstrating their products in the Meier Hall foyer from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students will have the opportunity to try out a variety of art supplies. Free samples will be available, and prize drawings will be held. Prizes include a full set of paints and brushes, compliments of M. Graham Paint and Connoisseur Brushes, for one college class, one high school class, and one art guild.
The art fair, which is sponsored by the BHSU Bookstore is open to the public at no cost. Pam McKie, assistant manager and merchandise buyer for the BHSU Bookstore, notes that this is an excellent opportunity for BHSU students as well as high school students and teachers and community members to meet paint experts and view art supplies.
“It a rare opportunity to have this accomplished artist and paint expert on hand to speak to students,” McKie says. “I encourage anyone interested in art to attend the art fair. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Graham and experience using a variety of products.”
The University Bookstore has a full line of art and photography supplies with more than 1,800 different products. The BHSU Bookstore is also recognized for their great variety of products including apparel, software and gifts. The University Bookstore is open to the public from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and also accepts online orders for gifts, clothing, and textbooks at www.BHSUbookstore.com.
