The South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity (SD CEO) at Black Hills State University, in partnership with Goldcorp-Wharf Resources, presents the inaugural Women in Leadership Series: Focusing on the Future.

This personalized professional development opportunity offers women from diversified industries the unique opportunity to increase their leadership skills, develop leadership strategies, and enhance their leadership styles.

The kick-off event will be held Wednesday, June 11 at the University Center-Rapid City from
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Four mini-sessions will follow: July 9; Aug. 13; Sept. 10; and Oct. 8, each from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.; with the series concluding at the SD CEO 5th Annual Women’s Business Conference Friday, Oct. 24.

Topics will be tailored for participants and will include: The Emotional Edge to Emotional Intelligence; Myths and Benefits of Budgeting; Business Ethics: A Global Perspective; Squalls and Gales: Weathering Change; Leading with Vision for the Future; and De-Escalating Verbal Conflict.

Presenters are experts in their fields who are passionate about the subject matter. “One of the great communication challenges is to de-escalate a verbal conflict without closing off productive conversation.  My session explores techniques that have the greatest potential for accomplishing that!” says Dr. Patricia Simpson, dean of the BHSU College of Education and Behavioral Sciences.

Presenters encourage women from all backgrounds to register for the series. “Understanding and embracing the budgeting process empowers women to find the means to funding and achieving their goals.  Instead of viewing a budget as a constraint or limitation, we should view it as a pathway to success,” Laura Prosser, BHSU assistant professor of accounting, says about her session.

Presenters at the leadership series include highly accomplished business professionals, business consultants, and BHSU professors and administrators: Dr. Priscilla Romkema; Dr. Pat Simpson; Dr. Barbara Looney; Dr. Wei Song; Ms. Laura Prosser; Dr. Mary Caton-Rosser; Dr. Rachel Headley; Ms. Linda Rabe; Dr. Helen Usera; Ms. Abby Olson; Ms. Meg Manke; Ms. Anna Tudela; Ms. Kitty Kinsman; and Ms. Sue Konstant.

Register online at www.BHSU.edu/SDCEO or by phone at (605) 642-6435. Early registration ends Friday, May 9 and is $269, which includes the entire Leadership Series and the SD CEO’s 5th Annual Women’s Business Conference Friday, Oct. 24. Late registration is $299.  Partial scholarships are available.
