Black Hills State University faculty, staff, students and community members will have an opportunity to hear from former First Lady Laura Bush, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and several other world leaders during a Leadercast Live simulcast Friday, May 9 in the Jacket Legacy Room of the David B. Miller Student Union.

Leadercast Live is a one-day leadership event broadcast live from Atlanta to hundreds of locations around the world. This year’s theme of “Beyond You” challenges leaders to leverage their influence for the sake of others.

Leadercast was built on a belief that the world needs better leaders – leaders worth following. During the Leadercast Live simulcast, individuals can access the knowledge and experience of world renowned leaders, according to Dr. Mitch Hopewell, interim director of distance education graduate programs.

“The internationally recognized speakers come from a wide spectrum of leadership perspectives; everyone will learn something,” Hopewell said.

Speakers for the Leadercast Live event include:

  • Andy Stanley – leadership communicator and best-selling author
  • Malcolm Gladwell  - award-winning journalist and best-selling author
  • Archbishop Desmond Tutu – Nobel Laureate and human rights activist
  • Randall Wallace – screenwriter, director, producer and songwriter
  • Bill McDermott – CEO of SAP AG, a German multinational software corporation
  • Laura Schroff – former advertising sales executive and best-selling author
  • Dr. Henry Cloud – clinical psychologist and leadership consultant
  • Simon Sinek – leadership expert and best-selling author
  • Laura Bush – former First Lady of the United States
  • Cat Deeley – Leadercast Co-Host
  • Tripp Cosby – Leadercast Co-Host

The cost of Leadercast Live is $10 for students; $29 for educational, non-profit and veterans; and $39 for the general public. The registration includes lunch.

A scholarship opportunity is also available for BHSU students. The Uttke Student Leader Award is a competitive scholarship intended to support and promote student leadership development. Scholarships will be awarded in three different categories: freshmen/sophomore; junior/senior; and graduate students.
Leadcast Live is possible through a donation from a Spearfish community member who is dedicated to creating additional leadership opportunities throughout the area.
