The South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity (SD CEO) at Black Hills State University, with the 28th Force Support Squadron, Rapid City Area Chamber of Commerce, S.D. Army National Guard, and Army ROTC present National Women’s History Month: Celebrating Women of Character, Courage, and Commitment from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, March 17 at the University Center in Rapid City.


This event will feature the following topics and speakers:  Women Empowering Women,  Col. Susan Pietrykowski, 28th Medical Group; We are all Women of Character, Courage and Commitment., Chief Warrant Officer 5 Darla Crown, S.D. National Guard; and Walking the Talk vs. Walking the Tightrope:  Reflections at the End of a Career, BHSU President Kay Schallenkamp.


The one-day event will also feature breakout sessions, a networking lunch and exhibitors. 


Breakout sessions will feature speakers with an extensive range of backgrounds including Circuit Judge Janine Kern, Karla MacArthur Harris, Stacy Langdeau, Sandy Burns, Erika Kroetch-Campbell, Jessica Drenning, Sandra Diegel, Michon Holt, Kristi Palmer, Cheryl Chapman, MAJ Kathy Dirk, 1SG Lorissa Wetzler, Leah Braun, and Cathy Payne.

Topics for the breakout sessions will include:  Women in the Law; Women in Engineering; Wanted: Women Owned Businesses; Women, Money and the Law; Women’s Health-Stress; How to Succeed in Business Even if it’s Not for Profit; Women in Nature; The Power of Resiliency; Women Mentoring Women; Empowerment of Women Around the World; Work and Life Balance; and Women’s Education and Scholarships.

“This event is designed to celebrate and honor women from many diverse backgrounds who have demonstrated character, courage, and commitment as military personnel, health care professionals, educators, and business and community leaders, said Helen Merriman, SD CEO director. “Their lives and work inspire women to achieve their full potential and encourage everyone to respect the diversity and depth of women’s experiences.”
