The 2013 Swarm Day king and queen candidates have been announced at Black Hills State University. Coronation will be Thursday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. in the Woodburn Hall Theatre.

Homecoming king candidates include: Brandon Huffman, exercise science–management major from Spearfish; John Erdahl, art education major from Ten Sleep, Wyo.; Cody Powers, physical education major from Wheatland, Wyo.; and Patrick MacLanders, psychology major from Hill City.

Candidates for homecoming queen include: Alyssa Terry, mass communication major from Rozet, Wyo.; Alyssa Niesen, psychology major from Milbank; Nora Gale, human services major from Belle Fourche; and Taarna Murray, psychology major from Custer.

The crowning of the Swarm King and Queen is one of several events taking place during Swarm Week, BHSU’s annual homecoming celebration. The festivities begin Monday, Sept. 30 and end with the Yellow Jacket homecoming football game against Western State at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5. The week is filled with many other activities including the Swarm Days Carnival with a live 93.1 radio remote, Olympic Village Party, hike to the H, kiddie carnival with Phil Baker, disc golf tournament, and the Swarm Day parade. This year’s homecoming theme is “Swarm Days Olympics” in recognition of the 2014 Winter Olympics in February. All parade entries are encouraged to be designed with an Olympic Games theme.
