For the second year in a row, Black Hills State University is participating in the Spearfish Downtown Friday Nights' celebrations sponsoring a variety of booths for all ages.

Each Friday, BHSU features a unique booth and activity organized by a different University department, organization or program. The booths are one way BHSU is demonstrating its commitment to the community, according to Mitch Hopewell, director of BHSU Educational Outreach. “We want to be here to contribute, and be as connected to the community as much as we can in as many different ways as we can,” he says.

Aside from the University-sponsored activities, many BHSU faculty, staff and students donate their time to other community organizations. Last Friday, a BHSU group provided assistance during the appearance of the Budweiser Clydesdales.

Every Friday during the summer, the city of Spearfish closes Main Street to host Downtown Friday Nights, a celebration in the street featuring musical entertainment, shopping sales, food, and other vendors. BHSU first established booths during last year’s Downtown Friday Night’s celebration as part of their educational outreach program. Since then the University has organized a variety of booths from local history trivia and face painting with Summer Stage performers to interactive science and math activities. BHSU’s schedule of booths for the remainder of the summer includes:

Aug. 16: BHSU Athletics – Yellow Jacket Club leaders and Athletic Department will provide information on Yellow Jacket Club memberships, season ticket sales, and fall sports posters, pocket schedules, etc.

Aug. 23: Sasha Pursley with BHSU History Club and Buzz Abroad – History quiz for adults and children.

Aug. 30: Jerry Rawlings and Steve Babbitt with BHSU Photography – Create memories with photos from the photo booth.

Sept. 6: BHSU Athletics BHSU Men’s & Women’s Basketball Teams will share information about the winter sports programs, poster schedules, clubs, etc.
