The South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity (SD CEO) at Black Hills State University presents the Fourth Annual Celebrating Women in Business Luncheon Thursday, May 16, at the Spearfish Holiday Inn. The signature event celebrates all working women, whether she is a current entrepreneur, aspiring entrepreneur, or working within the business community.
The exhibitor/vendor showcase begins at 10 a.m. with lunch at 11:30 a.m. The program features keynote speaker Sandy Burns, CEO of Project Solutions, Inc., Rapid City. Attendees will receive a resource booklet, access to business exhibitors, networking opportunities, and lunch. The event will wrap up at 1 p.m.
Helen Merriman, director of the South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity, says, “A unique feature again this year will be the announcement of four exemplary women entrepreneurs, chosen from a statewide nominations process, who have made a significant impact in business, and whose actions exemplify savvy business acumen, integrity, compassion, and commitment to community.” Award winners will be announced in four categories: The Enterprising Young Entrepreneur, The Enterprising Business Team, The Enterprising Business Woman and The Enterprising Friend of Small Business. Merriman encourages all women to attend the event to become inspired to begin and strengthen a business, network with other business women, and gain valuable insight into the world of entrepreneurship.
Burns started Project Solutions, Inc., a full service professional project-management firm in 2000. Project Solutions is located in Rapid City with operations in eight states and overseas.
Burns currently develops the sales and direction of the company and also works on projects. She has over 25 years of project management experience. As a consultant for small construction companies, she has provided business development, marketing, and training to increase a company’s ability to bid on projects. Sandy has a bachelor’s degree in chemical and petroleum refining engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and has previously worked for Rockwell International, IBM, OHM Remediation, The IT Group, and Shaw Environmental.
Project Solutions, Inc. has won numerous awards including 2012 SD CEO “Enterprising Business Team,” 2011 SBA “Minority Small Business Champion.” 2011 Merit Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies for Contract Management of the GSA, and the 2009 Governor’s Giant Vision Award.
