Sixteen Black Hills State University senior art and art education students are exhibiting their work during the annual Senior Art Exit Exhibition in the Ruddell Gallery, located on the second floor of the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union. The exhibit will be on display through April 26.
“We work alongside students preparing and installing the exhibit, and in most cases, closely mentor their production of the artwork. This exhibit provides students with the experience of producing an exhibition and receiving validation of their efforts from the community,” said Dave Wilson, associate professor of art at BHSU.
Students displaying their work include: Steve Barba, art major from Sturgis; Andrea Brooks, art major from Spearfish; Denice Fowler, art major from Rapid City; Joseph Francis Gaffney, art major from Rapid City; Toni Gerlach, art major from Piedmont; Jesse Lynne Glover, sociology major from Rapid City; Delretta Halvorson, art education major from Belle Fourche; Sam Uttecht Heltibridle, art major from Spearfish; Gina M. Kassube, art education major from Hill City; Sheena Meyers, art major from Rapid City; Dana Miller, art education major from Gillette, Wyo.; Angelica Piette, art major from Rapid City; Colleen Spear, art major from Spearfish; Sammie Taylor, art history major from Spearfish; Lindsay Uhrich, art major from Custer; and Shelby Weyrich, art education major from Yoder, Wyo.
All art and art education majors participate in the exit exhibition as they prepare to graduate, Wilson stated. The exhibition's purpose is to provide students with one last opportunity to show, on campus, a body of their work before graduation. Some students have compiled work from the last two years. Others have made completely new artwork just for this show.
The exhibit is free and open to public. For more information contact Jim Knutson, professor of art, or Wilson at 605.642.6706, or the Student Union Information Center at 605.642.6062.
