Award-winning art from local MasterWorks artists will be on display at the Black Hills State University Ruddell Art Gallery through the beginning of January.

The works of art displayed are from winners of the 16thAnnual South Dakota Health Care Association (SDHCA) Dakota MasterWorks Art Show held earlier this fall. Sponsored by SDHCA, Home Federal Bank, and KELOLAND television, the competition showcases the art talents and creativity of older South Dakotans. This year’s competitors range in age from 60 to 96.

“We wanted to showcase what older adults already know – the second half of life is full of creative growth and fulfillment,” according to LuAnn Severson, SDHCA Dakota MasterWorks coordinator.

More than 40 winning entries are on display at the Ruddell Gallery located in the BHSU David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union.

Categories included watercolor, oil and acrylic painting, drawing/pastels, photography, sculpture, and wood carving.

Several local artists’ work is on display in the galler yincluding Jerel Sateren from Black Hawk, Nancy A. Forest from Rapid City, Marian Louise Gowan from Rapid City, Alan E. Moeller from Piedmont, and Harry V. Peterson from Rapid City.
