Black Hills State University and Spearfish community displayed their school spirit and support for the military during the recent Swarm Day parade.

 This year’s homecoming theme was “Operation: Swarm Days,” a military appreciation theme to show support for the 842nd National Guard Engineering Company which recently  returned to Spearfish after a year-long deployment to Afghanistan. The Spearfish-based company is comprised of 160 soldiers including some BHSU students.

 Nearly 100 parade floats lined the street from BHSU through downtown Spearfish.Winners include: Best residence hall, Humbert/Heidi; Best student organization,Center of American Indian Studies; Best overall (hall/organization), Props and Liners; Best community floats, tie, Alumni Association and Dough Trader.  Spearfish High School won first place for the marching band competition followed by Sundance High School.
