Dr. Parthasarathi Nag, assistant math professor at Black Hills State University, will present his paper titled, "A Computational Algebraic Geometry Based Global Optimization Technique to Address Economic Dispatch" at the 2007 Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Power Engineering Society General Meeting.

The paper has been peer reviewed and will appear in the Proceedings for the Conference and also will be available online.

The paper discusses a method which could be used to identify the global optimum of non-convex power systems optimization problems. According to Nag, the method yields two possible solutions from which the least cost solution can be picked.

Nag earned a master’s of engineering from the University of Bombay in India, a master’s of science from Washington State University, and a doctorate from Washington State University. He joined the BHSU faculty in 2004.
