Black Hills State University is currently accepting students for the 2012 Summer Exploration Institute (SEI) to be held July 9-13. The Institute will offer two age categories: 7-10 years and 11 -14 years.

This year’s institute is a workout for the brain and body with classroom activities and field trips that encourage creative and critical thinking. Students participating in the Summer Exploration Institute will engage in classroom activities that set the stage for taking field trips, exploring the past and current impact of cultures on local communities, triangulating GPS coordinates to map a 100-year-old Ute site, and experiencing what living in the Black Hills is really all about.

The program was designed and directed by Dr. Mary Jones, assistant professor of education at BHSU. Jones has 23 years of experience in developing programs and writing curriculum. BHSU education students facilitate and teach SEI.

Parents can attend an open house Monday, July 2 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Jonas 202 on the BHSU campus, to preview SEI and meet the teachers.

Registration deadline is July 1. The cost of SEI is $40, which includes all materials. The cost does not include meals; participants may bring their own snacks or lunch.  For more information or to register for SEI visit www.BHSU.edu/SEI or contact Jones at Mary.Jones@BHSU.edu or 605-642-6833.
