Six Black Hills State University students were selected to participate in the Second Bi-Annual University Invitational Exhibit at the Washington Pavilion Visual Arts Center in Sioux Falls.

BHSU students whose artwork are featured in the exhibit include: Steve Barba; art education major from Sturgis; Brichelle Burnett, art major from Spearfish; Joshua Allen Green recent graduate from Gillette, Wyo.; Lydia Jackson, recent graduate from Rapid City; Lisa L. Koch, art education major from Elkton; and, Shalayne Mowry, math education and art major from Spearfish. They are among the 60 students at 10 state colleges and universities invited to participate in the exhibit.

A full range of media is represented in the exhibit including painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, photography, graphic design and multimedia electronic arts. David Merhib, director of the Visual Arts Center, says, “by including all types of media, our hope is to open the exhibition up so that all the strengths of the various art departments would be represented.”

According to Jodi Lundgren, curator of the Visual Arts Center, this exhibit is a great showcase of the quality of work being created around the state and demonstrates all of the work educators do to educate our students.

The University Invitational exhibition runs through Friday, Feb. 17, with a closing reception that evening from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. The reception is free and open to the public.
