Black Hills State University will host Aria Recital Evening, Saturday, June 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Clare and Josef Meier Recital Hall.
Singers from across the United States and Canada will sing a wide variety of opera arias. The singers, many of whom are graduate students at major music schools, are participants in the Johanna Meier Opera Theater Institute and will present a concert which is open to the public. There is no charge for the concert; scholarship donations are appreciated.
New this year, is the addition of Thomas Bagwell as the coach and accompanist for the program. Bagwell's appearances as an accompanist have taken him to such venues as Carnegie Hall, London's Wigmore Hall, the Musikverein, the Concertgebouw, and numerous concerts across the US, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Japan. He was an assistant conductor at the Metropolitan Opera for nine seasons, and has also served in that capacity at the Washington National Opera, Santa Fe Opera and Opera Theatre of St. Louis. He is currently on the faculty of Mannes College of Music in New York.
Students of the Johanna Meier Opera Theatre Institute receive individual instruction from internationally renowned faculty and focus on individual expression, private and group discussions, and performance.
