Black Hills State University will present a juried student award art show, “Happiness Camp,” in the Ruddell Art Gallery through May 13. A closing reception will be held May 3 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
BHSU art students entered a total of 80 pieces in the contest, from which 40 were chosen to be included in the show. Judge Cory Knedler, chair of the art department at the University of South Dakota, commented that he was very impressed with the quality of work that BHSU students entered.
Dustin Price, senior communication arts major from Spearfish, was awarded Best of Show. Mike Baum, senior art major from Harrisburg, was awarded second place. Lance Palmlund, sophomore art major from DeSmet, was awarded third place.
The Ruddell Gallery is located on the second floor of the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union. All shows in BHSU’s Ruddell Gallery are free of charge. Ruddell Gallery hours are: Monday-Thursday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, noon to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.
