Black Hills State University is sponsoring a raffle and disc golf tournament in memory of a deceased student, Karilyn “KC” Cottingham, who died in a car accident in January.

In memory of KC, BHSU is hosting a celebration of her life prior the disc gold tournament, Spring Fling for KC, Thursday, April 28 at 3:30 p.m. near hole one. A raffle of KC’s Gary Fisher bike, which was a gift from her family, is also being held in conjunction with the tournament.

KC was scheduled to graduate in May with a degree in early childhood development and special education. She enjoyed working at the BHSU Little Jackets Daycare and looked forward to student teaching this spring. KC had a passion for music and was a member of the BHSU choir.

The BHSU choir, under the direction Dr. Jonathan Nero, assistant professor of music, will sing a couple songs in KC’s honor during the tree planting. Those in attendance will then fling discs into the air for KC to begin the tournament. Donations will be accepted for participation in the tournament in memory of KC. The winner of the tournament will receive KC’s personal bag of drivers, putters and other discs.

Raffle tickets for KC’s bike can be purchased at the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union Information Center and the Buzz Shack in the Student Union Atrium. Tickets are one for $1 and six for $5. The winner of the raffle will be announced at the disc golf tournament. The proceeds from the raffle will go toward a tree and memorial plaque.
