The Black Hills State University Theatre Department is sponsoring a playwright competition where the winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship to BHSU and the opportunity to have their play produced.

The Theatre Department is seeking entries from anyone 20 years old and younger who have a story to tell and the opportunity to see their original work produced. The three winning playwrights will have an opportunity to have their plays produced by professional directors and actors in a workshop setting at BHSU this summer.

Plays must be original, can be any length and on any subject. Submissions must be typed in standard play format. All pages must be numbered and printed on one side only and unbound. A cover letter must be included with all play submissions that contain the entrant’s name, date of birth, address, email, and phone number. Winners will be contacted via email or phone by June. Each play submitted will be reviewed by a panel of theatre professionals.

Submit plays online at www.BHSU.edu/Playwright, email them to Bert.Juhrend@BHSU.edu, or mail them to: Black Hills State University, Department of Theater, 1200 University Street, Unit 9539, Spearfish, S.D. 57799.
