Dr. Michael Barrus, Black Hills State University assistant professor of mathematics, will present the lecture “Getting Pi: with a little help from my friends” Monday, March 14 at 3 p.m. in Jonas Hall Room 305 on the BHSU campus.
According to Barrus, “Pi is that number we all know from geometry that is approximately 3.14 of 22/7 and is everywhere.” In honor of Pi Day (3-14), Barrus will discuss what pi is “exactly” and how the number shows up in everything from million dollar prizes to failed legislation to high school musicals.
The discussion which is sponsored by the BHSU Honors Program, the BHSU Department of Mathematics, and the BHSU Math Club, is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
