James Louks, senior Black Hills State University art major, recently received three art awards.

He earned a third place award in the Fourth Annual “Impact” College/University Juried Student Exhibition at Northern State University. “Impact” features student artwork from South Dakota, North Dakota, and Western Minnesota that unites the powerful creative capacities of college/university students working in the visual arts. “Impact” is the only exhibition of its kind in the Northern Great Plains.

Louks also had four pieces of artwork accepted into the Eighth Annual Color: Bold/Subtle Juried On-line International Art Exhibition. More than 270 works were submitted from all over the world. The exhibition is hosted by the Upstream People Gallery and the University of Nebraska. Two of his four pieces of artwork received Special Recognition Awards. Louks is also collaborating with BHSU associate professor Dave Wilson for an art exhibition of 30 paintings that will be on display at Southern Oregon University, Ashland, Ore., and at Joliet Junior College, Joliet, Ill., in late 2011. Louks is planning to attend a master in fine arts program.
