The Black Hills State University 10% Society will host It Gets Better Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. in Club Buzz of the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union on the BHSU campus. The event is an educational presentation on suicide prevention and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) bullying and discrimination.
The evening will feature activities designed by The Trevor Project and It Gets Better, leading national organizations focused on crisis and suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth.
The 10% Society student organization invites all interested parties to attend and participate. Activities will encourage participants to consider the impact that bullying and exclusion have on all young people, not just those in the LGBT community. In addition to activities led by BHSU students, the event will have local counselors on hand for youth and their families who are struggling with bullying.
The event is open to the public and free to attend; however, donations will be collected for The Trevor Project. For more information contact Dr. Mary Husemann, assistant professor of humanities, at 642.6726 or Mary.Husemann@BHSU.edu.
