Dr. Greg Cooch, professor in the College of Education at Black Hills State University, will appear on South Dakota Public Television tomorrow evening following the airing of a documentary that includes footage from a discussion in Cooch’s classroom.

The documentary, Julia Monczunski's "Breaking Shells," is about two men with developmental disabilities who traveled the state in 2007 to discuss self-advocacy. Their last stop was Cooch's classroom and the discussion they had with Cooch and his students is one of the film's highlights. Following the film, Cooch will be one of four South Dakotans who comment on the evolution of special education laws and services over the past 35 years.

Videographer Julia Monczunski first filmed the men in 2005 and in 2006, accompanying them on a road trip across South Dakota. The independent documentary is produced by Black Hills Special Services Cooperative and directed by former SDPB Radio News Producer Julia Monczunski.
The program is scheduled to air June 16 at 6 p.m. (MT) and June 27 at noon (MT).

Cooch has been a member of the BHSU faculty since 1999. He earned his Ed.D. degree in 1996 from the University of South Dakota with a major in curriculum and instruction.
