Dr. Ahrar Ahmad, professor of political science at Black Hills State University, will present the next community Lecture and Lunch Series March 18 at 11:30 a.m. in the President’s Conference Room of the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union on the BHSU campus. Ahmad’s presentation will focus on the complexities and misunderstandings that exist in the Middle East.
When most Americans think of this region what often comes to mind is conflict (between countries, and sometimes within); severe disparities between the super-rich and the poor; the oppression of women; autocratic rule; massive arms build-ups; endemic instability; and anti-Western sentiments often expressed through threatening rhetoric, and sometimes through violence.
Ahmad believes that understanding more about this region, particularly the tensions that exist there, is important. He will discuss how to better understand some of these complexities and clarify misunderstandings that exist about the region.
Please note that previous lectures have been held in the Jacket Legacy Room of the Student Union; however, Ahmad’s lecture will be held in the Presidents Conference Room on the upper level of the Student Union.
There is a $10 fee for the Lecture and Lunch events, which covers the cost of lunch. Reservations are requested, but not required. For more information and to make a reservation, please call Shelby Cihak at (605) 642-6420.
